It's no secret that the impending 37th Annual NVWG (National Veterans Wheelchair Games) will be a memorable event. Slated to take place in Cincinnati, Ohio, the games kick off on Monday, July 17 and will conclude on Saturday, July 22, 2017.
Cincinnati-based venues where most of the events take place include the Powel Crosley Jr YMCA, Fairfield Sportsmen’s Association, Stargel Stadium, and Duke Energy Convention Center. You can watch 19 sports without having to shell out even a dime.
Moreover, the games will comprise a Kids Day scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 19, exclusively for local kids with disabilities.
Disabled Military and Paralyzed Veterans of America (Paralyzed Veterans), that hosts the Games every year in collaboration with VA (Department of Veterans Affairs), will take on each other in a array of challenging events such as track and bowling, basketball, air guns, boccia, field, hand cycling, a motorized wheelchair rally, trapshooting, weightlifting, table tennis, swimming, softball, slalom, quad rugby, power soccer, and nine ball.
In the event, veteran athletes will go toe-to-toe against others with comparable age, athletic ability or competitive experience. Paralyzed Veterans and VA receive extra backing from various community and corporate sponsors. Winners of each event receive bronze, silver and gold medals.
Deemed as the world's biggest annual wheelchair sports event, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games is graced by nearly 600 veteran athletes who hail from different countries including Great Britain, Puerto Rico, and the United States.
There's no admission fee and the community is invited to show up. If you are interested in registering for the event, you can head straight to www.wheelchairgames.org, where you can also check out a detailed schedule of events.
Alternatively, you can download the NVWG mobile app on your smartphone. The app is available on the Apple app store (for iOS users) as well as Google Play (for Android users).
The event will take place at Duke Energy Convention Center, 525 Elm Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202 from July 17-July 22, 2017.
