Access 4000 Makes Life in Brisbane Easier

An app called Access 4000 has been developed by a disability support service called Carers Link, which is based in Brisbane, in partnership with Support Queensland. This app's purpose is to assist people with disabilities in navigating around Brisbane and for finding venues and infrastructures which are wheelchair accessible. The developers hope to open more social doors for those who face certain barriers while accessing the many aspects of a community.

People who have different issues pertaining to mobility face trouble in availing transport and going to various venues due to lack of accessibility. It is difficult to find wheelchair accessible locations, which forces most people to stay confined in their homes.

The developers encourage people to share wheelchair accessible areas like a venue with a wheelchair ramp, disabled toilets etc. They want the community to download and use Access 400 to share venues which offer good access and could result in businesses ensuring that wheelchair accessibility is available in the venues that they offer services in.

A wheelchair user in Boondall, Brisbane said that life would become much easier as a result of this app. Before this app came along, people had to call and ask information on access beforehand which could be quite a difficulty for some. But with this app, a person can now know what the access features of a particular venue are. It gives one a boost of confidence to go out.

The director of Carers Link, Debby Brennan, says that more funds were needed to continue developing the app further. They plan to include more categories and features. They also wish to expand Access 4000 to the entire region of Queensland.

The app employs map technology to allow users to search and find venues that offer the features of accessibility that they require. Users can filter their preference as per requirement. Some of the features are wheelchair ramps, disabled parking, and disabled toilets.
