Eight-Year-Old Boy Raises Money For His Best Friend's Wheelchair

Kindergarten classmates Kamden Houshan and Paul Burnett didn't take long to become best friends. Creating funny videos and playing superheroes served as their favourite pastime. So when others focused much more on Kamden's handicap and wheelchair dependency, Paul showed complete indifference. This was the main reason Kamden could portray his true self when he was around Paul.

Eight-year-old Kamden, a resident of Poway, California, has been suffering from a T2 and T3 vertebrae tumour since his birth. A large tumour has already engulfed his spinal cord. Instead of having three surgeries, Kamden has become paraplegic and needs a wheelchair for carrying on his daily activities. But the heavy wheelchair is a tad too much for Kamden, who finds it difficult to push along by himself. It also causes accidents. Kamden recently fell off as his wheelchair tipped forward.

The wheelchair purchased by the state's Medicare once in every five years doesn't fit the growing Kamden proportionately. The Kamden's family could not afford a new wheelchair due to financial constraints. But this didn't stop Paul from reaching out to people using social media to a fund raising campaign to get his best buddy an entirely new support system.

After completing second grade, Paul vouched to help his friend in need. He checked out the fund raising website "Go Fund Me" and penned down a heart touching intro on why his Kamden needed that customized wheelchair.

Within two weeks, the campaign managed to raise $5455, which made his friend's wheelchair a reality.

Kamden tried out a demo wheelchair similar to one he will receive by August, and everyone could see the difference. Very recently he rocked the dance floor at a family member's baptism by swaying his chair side to side.
