Since the lockdown has been started many children with disabilities and their parents are having a tough time.
Devadathan is a six-year-old child living with a developmental delay and is going through a hard time in this lockdown period. And it's not just him, his mother Hima was having a tough time managing her son.
To address these concerns, the Kochi-based Prayatna Center for Child Development has come up with online therapy and counseling sessions for the differently-abled children and also for their parents. There are a lot of good reviews given by the differently-abled community based on the sessions.
The childcare-based Prayatna center works for children with developmental and behavioral problems. They used to have regular sessions for therapies like occupational and speech.
The Manager of Prayatna, Bonny John says, "We always ensure that parents are present along with the child when the therapy sessions are happening. So now, we have moved our sessions online which makes things easier for parents too. They can know how each session is happening. This benefits both the child and the parents as well."
According to Bonny, across India, many parents are having a hard time in this lockdown period. But after these sessions, many people will be able to manage their kids during these difficult days.
The online venture currently has more than 40 children with disabilities accompanied by their parents who have been provided sessions by the 15 therapists. The sessions are based on how the parents can engage their children and they also showcase the various therapies that can be done inside the comfort of their own homes.
According to Bonny, all of the sessions are free of cost for the differently-abled community. Through these sessions, people with disabilities can get immediate solutions to all of their problems.
There are different sessions for different developmental disorders which include children with autism, others with cerebral palsy, and many more developmental delays. At the venture, every session is 45 minutes to one hour long.
