Denver's Hidden Gem: Wilderness on Wheels

Denver, Colorado, has to offer than just the Broncos. Home to mountains that touch the sky and streams that seem to come from nowhere, this destination will have you more excited than a squirrel in a bird feeder.

For more than 30 years, Wilderness on Wheels has been providing access, for people of all abilities to nature. WOW, as they call it, offers fishing, hiking, and camping. The hiking trail is actually a boardwalk that inclines higher as you go. It is one mile that raises to 9,000 feet and allows everyone to "roll and stroll" through the mountains of Colorado.

Fishing at the park includes a fully stocked trout pond and streams that flow through the mountains. The streams, mountains, and clouds make for great wildlife sightings as you hike, fish, and/or camp.

Camping here is just as luxurious as hiking. WOW has 13 campsites, 5 huts, 1 rustic Cabin that sleeps four and has a fully stocked kitchen but does not have running water, and 1 modern cabin that sleeps 3 and comes equipped with a gas cooker, fully stocked kitchen, bathrooms, heat, blankets, pillows, bedding, and towels. The rustic cabin is $65 a night while the modern cabin is $85 a night. All sites, cabins, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible.

To book your stay, you can simply contact WOW via phone at (303) 403-1110 or by email. They are open memorial day weekend to October 15th.

Wilderness on Wheels also offers a music festival where you can listen to bands and enjoy some good food. Admission is free and, of course, food is available for purchase. The festival is August 3rd, 2019 from 11 am to 5 pm. It is sponsored by First Bank and Caring for Colorado Foundation.

To date, 116,000 hours and about 3,500 volunteers have made this destination a reality, 31 years in the making. Wilderness on Wheels has a 4.9-star rating out of 5 stars. Visitors praise the scenery exclaiming that it is "awesome" and a "great place".

I always believed that God created this planet to be explored. That is exactly what I plan to do here. See you there!!
