Disability by Drug Abuse – You Won’t Opt For it, Will You?

You can consider this a ‘Caution Post’ as you never know, you may accidentally or deliberately" fall for it", regretting it for the rest of your life.

A disability usually is innate or happens by accident. Sometimes, it may be because of negligence of a doctor. But have you ever known about a case where the cause was the person themselves? No, am not referring to just any delirious person in "self-destruct" or "suicide mode".

This post of is dedicated to devastating drug abuse, that leads to severe disabilities for a lifetime, and mind you, these disabilities have been proven to be irreversible.

Yes, am talking about the "Zombie Drug", also known as Krokodil, that in recent years has gripped a large majority of the youth population in Russia, turning them into the severely disabled or crippled.  And they look like real-life zombies.

‘Krokodil’, is the name given to home-made Desomorphine, as its one symptoms incluce the emergence of scales on the skin. Regular intake of the drug leads these "scales" to peel off, thereby exposing rotting flesh and even bones. In some cases, even the bones are eaten up by the drug.

So how did it all start?

Well, one vice births from another. It all started when in 2008, when suddenly Heroin addicts, a vast majority of them being young, started cooking up an easily-found, and much cheaper version of Heroin, within the walls of their kitchens. They'd realized that Heroin was out of their budget, and not easy to find. So, they switched over, without knowing what it was going to lead them to, and when they did, it was often already too late, and they were too addicted to even give a thought about refraining from further use.

Krokodil is refered to as a  ‘"drug of the poor".

Iodine fumes emerge from the cauldron, ensuring the drug is ready in just a half-an-hour or so. The addicts desperately make it before their euphoria period (of approximately 90 minutes) gets over. They then inject, with regular shots directly into their veins, and watch their bodies rot , resulting in disabilities of various kinds. Not only do disabilities involve limbs, they also damage the brain, leading to impaired speech and mental instability.

Nearly as simple as making tea, the drug requires a once over-the-counter available Codeine, mixed with other easily available ingredients like gasoline, paint thinner, iodine, hydrochloric acid and red phosphorus.

This horror story went on continuously, until June 2012, when Russia finally imposed a ban on the over-the-counter sale of Codeine without prescription. The significant rise recorded in Codeine sales, raised the alarm for authorities.

Yet no law has been implemented against those who are found possessing Codeine.

As per Rusty Payne, the Drug Enforcement Administration spokesman, it won’t be surprising if this starts happening overseas.

Even today, one cannot be sure if this calamitous drug abuse has ceased to exist, as drug trafficking has always been an arduous challenge for authorities.

So, if you are already struggling with any kind of addiction, give it up. It only adds to the misery.

Make sure you are not cooking up the 'Disability Drug', the drug that leads to deliberate disabilities you will to mourn over for a lifetime, or die from.

Seriously Alarming Post...Should be spread wide & far! These kind of abuses can also be seen in many parts of Africa & under-previleged nations, besides in nations with fragile law enforcement. Thanks Shabs Online for sharing it.

Right NELLUR... People need to understand what they'd been doing with their precious lives as their lives are in their hands only and they need to be concerned about it. You can't rest assured about the system and it's laws and rather need to keep a constant vigil on what's happening around you. Thanks!

Disability caused by drug abuse is certainly the worst form of disability. It is saddening to know about what happened in Russia.

Yea Winnie, I have loved Russia for her history, dignity and beauty. It's very upsetting to know about what has been happening to the youth there. Seriously want them to come over this issue completely, now! :(

Voted. Another powerful, well-written article, but again, not easy to read! Well done for publicising this. Have you heard of Smoker's Leg? It is when heavy smokers end up having to have their leg (or other limb) amputated because of gangrene, due to the smoking. Smoking affects the circulation, among other things, so that parts of the body become oxygen-starved. You might like my latest blog, A Disabled Man's Best Friend, please check it out! :-)

Yea I've heard of Smoker's Leg which is quite similar to this drug's one of the symptoms. Though the other symptoms of Krokodil include speech impairment, memory loss, mental disbalance, hormonal imbalances leading to devastating results and gangrene in any part of the body, be it external or even internal vital organs like heart, kidneys, liver, lungs. Thnz for the vote n comment dear! :)

Vote # 11. Wow! Thanks for the information. I'm glad, that I nor my sons, do drugs. This is horrible to know, that drugs are getting into the hands of our young people today...... All is not a loss though. There is hope for them if they want the help to get off of it and get cleaned up. The only thing, is that they themselves, need to know, that they need the help in order to get the help. They have to want it bad enough to kick the habit.... Again, Excellent post.....

Sounds a little like crystal meth. Within a year, people are completely destroyed by it but at the brain level instead of skin. Will vote tomorrow! When you have the chance, come read my new post, My Personal Story.
