My last post about how to get adaptive sports equipment for cheaper or even free was inspired by the amazing opportunity I have been given by the nonprofit Society for the Handicapped Children & Adults. The Society received a generous donation that can change the lives of many children. A Top End Eliminator race chair is now available for loan. With the help of Top End for sending me a few screws and my local bike shop Fun Sport Bikes for providing inner tubes for what seems years I was able to clean up and get the chair in racing shape.
You many remember my WheelchairGiveAway last year and as this is in the same area of helping someone gain mobility equipment the details are a little different. The Society’s plan to loan the chair is ingenuous in many ways. It is a youths size dimensions so it would be outgrown rather quickly. This saves a parent money by not purchasing an expensive chair that would be replaced in a year or two. After it is outgrown it would be returned to the Society and they would again loan it to another child that is interested in adaptive sports. If a race wheelchair isn't your thing then you can return it without paying thousands of dollars for a sport chair to sit in your garage.
I understand sports equipment handled by children are exposed to harsh environments but with the help of Top End, Fun Sport Bikes and myself I believe the chair can be used for many years.
The Society and I are sad to inform you that this loan is only available to the central valley area of California. Generous founding that keeps the Societys wheels turning (pun intended) is generated locally so we are looking for someone in the area close to home. If you aren't in our area I would appreciate you sharing this along in hope to find someone local. Help the Society and I give the gift of adaptive sports to disabled children in the central valley area.
