Dogs are not just fluffy pets, they're the apple of their owners' eye. This year, rescue dog Effie Brown will be participating in the coveted New York fashion event for pets, becoming the first-ever wheelchair pit bull.
Effie Brown will be introduced to adoring fans as she represents all physically challenged dogs at the New York Pet Fashion Show. The style-savvy dog will be making an appearance in her Walkin’ Wheels Wheelchair.
Monica Brown of ASR (Apollo Support and Rescue) attributed Effie’s progress to her gallant spirit and the support offered by HandicappedPets.
HandicappedPets is an Amherst-based company that makes products designed for aging, wounded and even for pets with special needs.
Taking Effie’s weight and height, Handicapped Pets suggested a wheelchair to ensure she received the best quality of life.
A few weeks ago, Effie was finally able to wag her tail. More importantly, she's now able to move with less restriction. Her wheels have enabled Effie to walk one of the most notable dog fashion shows of the season.
HandicappedPets will bear the travel expenses for Effie and Brown’s trip from Texas to New York. On the way to their destination, Brown will take six other rescue dogs to their new homes.
This pet adoption event comprises four fashion dog runway shows -- International Carnivale and Hat Couture, Country Western Couture, Made in the USA, and Best in Show.
