Our society places a strong emphasis on physical beauty and we have all heard the saying that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but sometimes when you feel good inside, your beauty shines forth on the outside for all to see.
Most women would agree that they enjoy a little pampering once in a while to help spark those feel good emotions that radiates our beauty from the inside out! As a woman with a disability, I feel it's important to always put my best foot forward. When we show the world that we care about how we feel and present ourselves, we can create an aura of approachability around us. Below are just some of my favorite inner and outer beauty tips.
Take Time to Refocus
Each day, even for a few minutes, finding space to remember to breathe, refocus your thoughts or a simple act like filling up your coffee cup can help calm your nerves and put your energy into focus. It's important to take a few of these quiet moments each day in our noisy, chaotic world. Whether you like to find some time to work out, read, chat with a friend of focus on a hobby, these moments allow us to put things into perspective.
Do For Others
Performing random acts of kindness and doing for others allows us to not only help others and brighten their days but also help fill our spirits. It's in the moments when we do for others that we show the world our inner beauty.
Look Your Best
Putting your best foot forward each and every day can give you confidence and confidence is beautiful. Why leave the house looking just ok when you can take a few minutes to present your best self? Find an outfit that makes you feel your best. Combine that with a little hair and makeup in the morning and you can set a positive tone for the rest of the day.
Bubble baths. Bubble baths are a favorite part of my beauty routine. Whether taking one in the morning to relax before the chaos of the day begins or taking one at the end of the day to wash away stress, bubble baths can be good for the soul!
Sugar Scrubs. I recently discovered homemade scrubs to use as natural exfoliants once a week to brighten up your skin when it starts looking dull. You can easily make scrubs at home using ingredients like honey, oatmeal, sugar, milk, vanilla, olive oil, etc.
Skin Care. Removing your makeup every night is so important to healthy skin. Using a simple cleanser and moisturizer in the morning and before bed can help keep oil and blemishes at bay. I love clean and clear's oil blotting sheets for absorbing oil and controlling shine during the day.
Nails. For wheelchair users, our hands get noticed as well as abused from pushing our chairs. Taking care of your hands and nails is just as important as hair, makeup or clothes. Manicures can be costly, but never underestimate the power of a $2 bottle of nail polish, some moisturizer and an emery board.
