The Tiruvarur-based Railway Station Has Now An Parking Lot Especially For People With Disabilities

Tiruvarur-based, Rafiq Ahmed who is differently-abled had faced some issues at the Tiruvar railway station, Tamil Nadu. when he had made a trip to Tiruvarur in the Tamil Nadu, he had parked his scooter at the disability parking lot and then later on when we had returned after a week it was moved by someone to the private parking space and he also had to pay for it.

Later on, Rafiq fine a complaint against the Indian Railways by his Twitter account by which he got the attention of the officials, who were from the disability rights groups in Tamil Nadu.

Currently, the railway station in Tiruvarur has a parking lot especially for people with disabilities. According to Rafiq, when he was asked for money for the parking issue he had told the official to reduce the charges as he is a wheelchair user but he didn't give any importance to Rafiq's talks.

The thing that has happened with Rafiq, has already happened with many other people with disabilities. There are many cases wherein a disability parking lot is used by a person who has no disabilities due to there is no in charge on the spot.

There are many stories like this where someone has raised their voice against this but this is the first where an action has been taking for it. Rafiq is glad that someone was ready to fight for him.

According to Rafiq, his main goal is to wake up people with disabilities and encourage them to fight back. By 5 November, the disability group was about to begin a strike against the railway based on the issues, but soon after that authorities made a promised that they will take care of this issue.

"What the Railways has done is a welcome move since a common man could get help. But this must not stop at Tiruvarur station alone because this is not an isolated incident. Railways must engage people with disabilities more so that officials will also know our needs and requirements. The more you engage, the more fruitful the results will be", Deepak added.
