Tips For Wheelchair Fashionistas

If you use a wheelchair it doesn’t mean you can’t be fashionable and look gorgeous.  This was demonstrated by models who used mobility devices on the New York catwalk recently.

Here are some tips to help you look stunning, too.

Show off your waist

Whether you boast a tiny waist or are a little well-padded, a belt helps to give your outfit more style and shape.  Experiment with thin, almost invisible belts to wider styles with fancy buckles.  Accentuate your waist to give your outfit more form and fit.

Sexy shoulders

Shoulders can be very sexy so make the most of yours by buying some shoulder-baring tops.  If you have shapely shoulders, try strappy tops or a halter style.  Styles that allow a little shoulder to just peek out or tank top cuts look great for summer days and one-strapped shoulder tops are a good choice for a look that's fresh and different.

Elongate your torso

Sitting in a wheelchair can make your torso look shorter than it really is.  When you begin to get tired, you tend to slump which can make you look even shorter.  You can disguise this by wearing a top that’s a little bit longer than you really need.  This look creates the illusion that you’re actually longer in the body than you really are.

Avoid bulky fabrics

Styles that use lots of fabric are designed to hang down and give movement to an outfit.  Too much bulky fabric is not a good style choice if you use a wheelchair because it tends to just pool around you.  This has the effect of making you look much bigger than you actually are.

Avoid over-sized jackets, dresses or tops and instead choose more fitted styles.

Accessorize

Plain outfits can be dramatically enhanced by the use of cleverly chosen accessories.  Footwear, jewellery, makeup, hair accessories and hats all help to brighten up an otherwise boring ensemble.  Choose your own style to add a unique signature to your look.

Printed leggings show off your legs

Leggings are comfy and great for showing off your legs.  Printed leggings and tights look great on wheelchair users.  There are dozens of different styles to choose from too: spots, stripes, glitter, floral patterns and more!

In conclusion

Anyone can look just as glamorous, elegant or sexy as the top models.  All it takes is a little savvy when choosing styles.  Experiment with different cuts and colors to find out what suits you best and ramp up the individual effect with cleverly chosen accessories.
