Turkish-based HealthSteps App is Making People with Disabilities Lives Better

The Turkey-based health app called the HelpSteps is an innovation that converts the steps of the user into donations and makes lives better of all people with disabilities across the country.

Recently, HelpSteps has started a donation campaign especially for a Turkish girl named TuÄŸba Özer who is suffering from a rare disease called Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC). Özer was born with this type of muscular disease and have been visiting physiotherapy since day one.

With the help of 1 billion steps that the fundraising app manage to rack up, the 16-year-old wheelchair-bound was able to buy an electric wheelchair.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, TuÄŸba's mother Dudu Özer said, "TuÄŸba used to use a manual wheelchair and was dependent on her caretaker. She has become more independent, social and outgoing ever since she received her new electric wheelchair. Now, she is so happy, calling the wheelchair her car and spending more time outdoors with her friends."

According to Dudu, now her daughter loves to go to school. Currently, TuÄŸba is studying at a high school in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every person using this app should walk at least 10,000 steps per day to increase physical activity among able adults.

Usually, there are apps like shopping apps and games which make people lazy and inactive. But an app like HealthSteps can move out of their houses and make them physically active and help someone in need.

The app's project official, Gözde Venedik said, HealthSteps is free of cost and with the help of in-app advertising the app can be used by both iOS and Android users. Before midnight the users should transform theirs to HealthSteps they just need to watch a small ad by Google. Till now, 80,000 users walk 80 million steps every day.

According to Venedik, after knowing about TuÄŸba's case many more people with disabilities want to take part in this app campaign. Till now HealthSteps have helped three charities and have bought an electric wheelchair.

Currently, The campaign is only available in Turkish, but according to the developers, this app will also be available in multiple languages.
